When Vessels purchased San Luis Rey Downs, there was a need to house both Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse racehorses. The training track was moved into the infield, and eight new barns were built where the training track was previously located. New stalls and a new entrance to the track were placed on the northwest side of the track. In addition, 12' x 12' stalls were built into the 24' x 24' paddocks. Room was made to accommodate 1,500 head of racehorses.
