Farrell W. Jones Thoroughbred Farm |
|
A Superior Facility Devoted
Entirely to Racehorse Rehabilitation
In 25 years on the California circuit, the late Farrell Jones was several
times the leading trainer at every track in the state--Santa Anita, Hollywood
Park, Bay Meadows, Golden Gate Fields, and Tanforan. At Del Mar, he was
the leading trainer 11 times.
Although he trained many good horses, including the top handicap mare Manta,
he won those titles with claiming horses. Most claiming horses have soundness
problems, and Farrell Jones learned his lessons well.
After he retired from training, experience and expertise provided guidance
for his own racehorse rehabilitation center--the Farrell W. Jones Thoroughbred
Farm. The farm's veteran staff now is headed by manager Marcos Menjivar,
who's been at the farm since 1985, and carries on the work of his late
mentor. |
A Major Addition to Our Racehorse
Rehabilitation Program!
The Odyssey Performance Trainer
provides a state-of-the-art solution for exercising, training and rehabilitating
horses. For details, click here. |

The heart of the rehabilitation program at the farm is this 60-foot hot-and-cold-water
aquatherapy treadmill, modified from the standard by the lengthening of
the entry and exit ramps to reduce the angle of slope and the deepening
of the water in the treadmill itself.
The water treadmill makes it possible for a horse to regain condition while
putting minimum weight on those recovering legs. Most horses at the farm
go on the treadmill 30 days before returning to the track, where they're
ready to breeze upon their arrival.
The farm has a high success rate with problems of feet, bowed tendons,
knees, suspensories, tibias, stifles, and hocks as well as with bleeders.
Before therapy begins, problems are identified with the help of state-of-the-art
heat sensors.
Technology alone doesn't repair sore horses. Expertise is the key, and
the Farrell Jones-trained staff provides that.
Hundreds
of horses have come to Farrell W. Jones Thoroughbred Farm and returned
to the track to win races, including Fly Till Dawn, Capo di Capo, Five
Star Day, La Feminn, Forest Camp, and many others.
The
focus of the farm's efforts is clearly shown by the list of daily charges,
consisting of just five offerings: Stalls $27.00, pens $24.00, grass pasture
$13.00, treadmill $13.00, sale preparation $32.00 (includes treadmill).
