GOOD JOURNEY is beyond doubt one of the best-credentialed stallions ever to enter stud in California. A half-brother to 2003 Eclipse Champion Sprinter Aldebaran, he is a son of the leading sire Nureyev out of a Grade 1-winning European champion. He won the $1 million Atto Mile Stakes (G1) and three Grade 2 races and placed in the 2002 Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) before he retired from competition at the age of 7 with total earnings of $1,733,058.

GOOD JOURNEY is by the champion racehorse and leading stallion Nureyev, the sire of 136 stakes winners. Nine runners by this influential sire were recognized as champions, including Theatrical (Ire), Miesque, Peintre Celebre, Sonic Lady, Soviet Star and Spinning World.

GOOD JOURNEY is one of four stakes winners out of European champion Chimes of Freedom, the dam of Eclipse Award winner Aldebaran ($1,739,186). His second dam is Irish champion Aviance (Ire). It’s a female family packed with outstanding international performers.

GOOD JOURNEY was a classy turf specialist who could run anywhere. He won or placed in graded stakes at Hollywood Park, Santa Anita Park, Woodbine, Churchill Downs, Arlington Park and Hawthorne Park. He placed twice in three starts at 3 in France, then shipped to North America, where he was never worse than third in 13 starts, including seven graded stakes. He recorded Equibase Speed Figures ranging from 110 to 121 in his final 11 starts, and came within a length of winning the prestigious Breeders’ Cup Mile.

GOOD JOURNEY initiated his stallion career in Australia during the 2003 Southern Hemisphere breeding season, and continues to shuttle between that country and California. He enjoys immense popularity at Cornerstone Stud in Australia, with a yearling average of $74,600 at the major sales in 2008, an in-foal mare average of $600,000 at the Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale and a tremendous 187 coverings during the 2008 and 2009 Southern Hemisphere breeding seasons. His Australia-conceived crops have yielded more than 40 winners, including the Group 1-winning filly Grand Journey (Aus) and the dual Group 2-winning colt Sound Journey (Aus) from his debut crop, as well as the multiple Group-placed winner Happy Trails (Aus).

GOOD JOURNEY stood his initial season in North America in 2007. His first California-conceived foals are 3-year-olds of 2011, and include the stand-out colt Thirtyfirststreet ($265,400), the winner of Santa Anita Park's 2010 California Breeders' Champion Stakes on dirt and Lone Star Park's 2011 Lone Star Derby on turf.

GOOD JOURNEY is represented by international progeny earnings of more than $4.3 million, and average earnings per starter of more than $38,000. His Average Earnings Index is impressive, at 1.54.

GOOD JOURNEY stands at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, California. His 2011 fee is $5,000, live foal guarantee.
